Ron Unz, former businessman and conservative political activist, blasts through two rival explanations for homosexuality: the Gay Gene hypothesis and the Gay Germ hypothesis. Neither holds much water on its own, he writes. “The two battling hypotheses … are hardly all that much opposed, and may even blend into one another when we draw the proper distinction between proximal and ultimate causation.”
