In southern Australia, the soil there is some of the driest in all of the world. To cope with drought and arid landscapes, some farmers there are advocating the use of biotechnology and GM crops. However, southern Australia currently has a ban on GM crops. Many farmers worry that southern Australia will be left behind in the agricultural race to produce, due to the fact that the region is already failing to keep up with other parts of the world that currently use biotechnology. But how long can Australia wait? When, if ever, will biotechnology be used to create more sustainable farming?
