Those opposed to mandatory GMO labeling got some welcome words from a former top Obama administration official on [June 3]. Former FDA Commissioner Margaret Hamburg said she is concerned it could send the wrong message to consumers.
“This is the area that worries me the most, that we not enter a period of what some call science denialism out of fear,” Hamburg said at the O’Neill Institute’s Vote Food 2016 event at Georgetown Law Center, during a conversation about science in food policy. Hamburg said the positives for GMO crops, in particular, are “very compelling especially if we care about food security around the globe.”
