Neurologists believe they are a step closer to being able to erase unshakeable haunting memories.
In research sounding like the plot of a sci-fi film, a group of researchers believes it has found a gene that extinguishes memories. The process, which occurs when new memories overwrite old ones, is being treated as a key to eventually completely deleting painful memories.
The research could lead to medical advances and the successful treatment of those suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder, or sufferers tormented by earlier experiences.
