Leading Nigerian politician pushes for bio-safety law

The Speaker of the House of Representatives in Nigeria, Aminu Tambuwal, has indicated that the passage of the Bio-safety Bill into law is essential to check the import of genetically modified products into the country from the industrialized world.

Represented by the Leader of the House, Hon. Mulikat Akande-Adeola, the speaker noted that: “This is very timely in the sense that bio-safety is the hallmark of agricultural revolution with regards to increased crop yield which benefits and compositions should be known by the people to build confidence. That can only be possible if there is a legislation in place to check the abuse of the technology by experts or even the farmers.”
