Big money in Washington state labeling fight

The following is an edited excerpt.

Although it’s still early in the game the fight in our state over Initiative 522, the measure which would require labeling of genetically modified foods (GMO) is starting to look like the same duke out in the state of California at this stage of events

But in California, despite starting out strong with funding and enthusiasm – as is the case in Washington – big spenders, big pharma, big aggie and sophisticated, experienced campaign managers all combined last year to defeat the Golden State’s out funded and out foxed Proposition 37.

But things may be different here in this different time in the Evergreen state.”The national movement for labeling food and beverages containing genetically modified organisms (GMOs) thinks it has a real shot in Washington State,” says Food Safety News in a new report on the girding up for battle by both sides over I-522.
