Myriad BRCA patents under review by SCOTUS

Are human genes patentable? Myriad genetics, which holds patents on two genes that can signal if a woman faces a greater risk of developing breast or ovarian cancer, will get its day in court. The Supreme Court has granted the petition for writ of certiorari and will hear the case and decide whether isolated human genes can be patented, a long-unsettled legal question with broad implications for biotechnology companies and medical researchers.
