Video: Bill Gates on why the future needs biomedical innovation

On Monday, Bill Gates delivered the 2013 David E. Barmes Global Health Lecture on the need for biomedical innovation to combat future challenges.

Known for his philanthropy, Bill Gates advocates for research and innovation, particularly in technology, to help people live healthy and productive lives. He also is an outspoken supporter of federal investment in basic scientific research, including biomedicine. The Gates Foundation partners with the Foundation for the National Institutes of Health (FNIH) to support global health research. Through this collaboration, ongoing programs are studying diseases such as malaria, enteric infections, tuberculosis, and HIV/AIDS.
